Working

Waveguide and Magnetic Interaction: A magnetostrictive position sensor typically consists of a waveguide made of a magnetostrictive material, such as nickel or iron. A current-carrying wire is embedded along the length of the waveguide.

Magnet: A magnet is attached to the object whose position needs to be measured. This magnet interacts with the magnetic field generated by the current-carrying wire.

Magnetostrictive Effect: When an electrical current flows through the wire, it creates a magnetic field around the wire. This magnetic field interacts with the magnet on the object, causing the magnetostrictive material to change its shape due to the magnetostrictive effect.
