Explosion-Proof Housing These sensors are enclosed in a robust and sealed housing that is designed to prevent the release of electrical energy or sparks that could ignite flammable substances in the environment.

Magnetostriction Magnetostriction is the phenomenon where certain materials change their shape in the presence of a magnetic field. Explosion-proof magnetostrictive linear position sensors use this principle to measure the position of a moving magnet along a sensing element.

Wave Propagation A magnetostrictive sensor generates a guided wave or pulse along a waveguide within the sensor's housing. The waveguide usually consists of a ferromagnetic wire or rod.



Feature:

Time-of-Flight Measurement: The sensor measures the time it takes for the torsional stress-induced wave to propagate back to the sensor head. By knowing the speed of the wave and the time it takes to travel to the magnet and back, the position of the magnet (and thus the object) can be accurately determined.
